Victory Week Saturday

By now the body of Christ lay in the tomb. Joseph of Arimathea a member of one of the religious councils who condemned Jesus was coming out of his hiding. He along with Nicodemus were secret beLIeVERs of Christ. Joseph now took the body on the late friday night (the day of preparation) and wrapped Jesus in the linen cloth and placed him in the tomb.

The stone was rolled over the entrance and ordered to be guarded.

Mat 27:62-66 NLT 62 The next day, on the Sabbath, the leading priests and Pharisees went to see Pilate. 63 They told him, “Sir, we remember what that deceiver once said while he was still alive: ‘After three days I will rise from the dead.’ 64 So we request that you seal the tomb until the third day. This will prevent his disciples from coming and stealing his body and then telling everyone he was raised from the dead! If that happens, we’ll be worse off than we were at first.” 65 Pilate replied, “Take guards and secure it the best you can.” 66 So they sealed the tomb and posted guards to protect it.

Mar 16:1 NLT 1 Saturday evening, when the Sabbath ended, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome went out and purchased burial spices so they could anoint Jesus’ body.

surely the disciples are in a state of indifference, unbelief probably shocked. Yes even if they did see the Temple curtain rip into or felt the ground shake. Along with the darkness that covered the land. were they still beLIeVING?

The week of passover is coming to a close and the ONE who is to be the ONE is not with them. What were their conversations like in those hours, leading up to Sunday. They didn’t know what we know now…or did they? How much fear hovered in every corner of the room behind locked doors, surely the leaders would be looking for HIS followers. Was their guilt from running still weighing on them? praying oh man i bet, and i’m sure not much sleep was happening now either. every knock on the door would rattle the heart of “who is it”

maybe just maybe someone remembered these words Jesus spoke a week before Victory Week.

Jhn 12:30-32 NLT 30 Then Jesus told them, “The voice was for your benefit, not mine. 31 The time for judging this world has come, when Satan, the ruler of this world, will be cast out. 32 And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself.”

Those words in Remembrance of HIM would bring comfort wouldn’t they? They too could count on HIM keeping his promises, so heads would start nodding together, hearts jumping in the hope, the assurance, the victory that YES he did say when, not if…HE said WHEN i’m lifted from the earth….but when? Hearts are knitting together in unity in anticipation of when…
